Once On This Island

Book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens
Music by Stephen Flaherty

Director - AJ Wester

Musical Director - Julian Chin

Choreographer - Michael Snipe

Set on a tropical Island of the French Antilles (Haiti), a group of peasants waits out the night of a terrible storm by performing a fairy tale of star-crossed lovers for a frightened young girl. Through music, song and dance, the musical explores universal issues which affect us all – love, anger, forgiveness, prejudice, faith, maturity and death. The original production was nominated for eight Tony Awards, won the AT&T “New Plays for the Nineties” Award, and was chosen as one of the “Ten Best Plays of 1989-90” by the Burns Mantle Yearbook. The London production won the 1995 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical.

Once On This Island is an exuberant musical journey of love, loss and triumph! Don’t miss ChiArts' first full-length musical!
